Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has commended Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for his rapid rise in Kenya’s political landscape, particularly highlighting his growing influence in Western Kenya.
Speaking after Sifuna’s well-attended Linda Mwananchi rally in Bungoma, Ahmednasir described the senator’s ascent as a positive development, urging Kenyans to celebrate rather than resent his increasing prominence.
Filling a Long-Standing Void
Ahmednasir argued that Sifuna has not displaced any established leader but has instead stepped into a political vacuum that has persisted since the death of former Vice President Kijana Wamalwa in 2003.
“For too long, Western Kenya has lacked a political heavyweight at the national level. Edwin Sifuna appears to be the new force representing the region,” Ahmednasir noted, emphasizing that Sifuna’s appeal extends beyond the Luhya community.
Sifuna’s Expanding Support Base
The Linda Mwananchi rally in Bungoma showcased the senator’s growing grassroots support outside Nairobi, where he currently serves as senator. This event reinforced perceptions of Sifuna as a key political figure with regional and national relevance.
Ahmednasir’s remarks position Sifuna as a credible successor to the leadership legacy left by Kijana Wamalwa, marking a significant moment for Western Kenya’s role in national politics.
