Political analyst Herman Manyora has highlighted the growing political clout of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, comparing his rise to that of veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
In an interview with NTV, Manyora described Sifuna as a "spirit"—formless and difficult to suppress—whose expanding influence poses a unique challenge to Kenya Kwanza leaders.
Sifuna’s Unpredictable Appeal
Manyora emphasized that unlike other regional politicians whose momentum was curtailed by seasoned leaders, Sifuna’s appeal is national and less predictable. He contrasted Sifuna’s trajectory with that of Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, whose rise was checked by experienced Western Kenya politicians including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya.
Western Kenya Tour Signals National Ambitions
Sifuna recently conducted a high-profile political tour across Western Kenya, engaging in rallies and grassroots meetings. Supporters view this as the initial stage of a broader campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election.
During a rally in Kiminini, Sifuna urged Western Kenya residents to stay united behind his political journey, though he stopped short of announcing a presidential bid. He dismissed claims by Kenya Kwanza leaders that the opposition’s momentum is fleeting.
Responding to remarks by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who likened opposition activities to a "newspaper fire" that quickly dies out, Sifuna asserted, "Our momentum is not like a newspaper fire that dies out fast as some have said. We will go to the very end."
Outlook Ahead of 2027 Polls
Confident in the opposition’s prospects, Sifuna expressed belief that Kenyans are ready for political change and that the opposition will unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
