On July 25, Anthony Joshua marked a powerful return to the ring with a second-round knockout victory over Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The win came after a challenging opening round where Joshua was knocked down twice but rallied to secure a decisive finish.

This triumph held deep personal significance for Joshua, who lost two close members of his training team in a car accident in December 2025. Latif "Latz" Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, both died in the crash on Nigeria's Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Visibly emotional after the fight, Joshua dedicated his victory to his late coaches, describing them as brothers and expressing how their loss had been a profound challenge. He said, "That was more than power, that was Sina and Latz and family... It's been tough... I learned I cannot be stopped or denied. I am coming, trust me."

The accident occurred when Joshua’s vehicle was hit on the right side, where Ayodele and Ghami were seated. Joshua had moved to the back seat moments before the collision, a decision believed to have saved his life. He sustained minor injuries including damaged ribs, while the driver faced charges of dangerous driving.

Joshua’s comeback victory sets the stage for a highly anticipated bout against Tyson Fury, expected to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York with a prize of approximately KSh 9.4 million. Beyond the financial stakes, Joshua views the upcoming fight as a tribute to his fallen friends and a testament to his resilience.

Despite the psychological and physical toll of the past months, Joshua’s performance demonstrated his determination to continue his boxing journey and honor the memory of those he lost.
