On Sunday afternoon, a routine meeting of the Queen's Women Chama in Saika estate, Kayole, was violently interrupted when two armed men entered a local hair salon and robbed the group.
The incident occurred around 3pm as members gathered for their weekly meeting. Surveillance footage shows the suspects calmly entering before one revealed a pistol, triggering panic among the women.
One gunman, wearing a dark top and cap, brandished the firearm and demanded the victims hand over valuables. The robbers made off with Ksh 50,000 in chama contributions and a Samsung mobile phone.
Philis Kimani, one of the victims, recounted, "We were sitting as women with the money on the table. The man came in like a customer but then pulled out a pistol and told everyone to stay silent and place their phones on the table."
The two suspects fled on a motorbike, with suspicions that an accomplice waited outside to facilitate their escape. Fortunately, no one was injured during the brief ordeal.
Police Investigations Underway
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the perpetrators. Authorities have appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in identifying the gunmen.
This brazen daylight robbery has heightened concerns about the rise of violent crime and armed gangs operating within Nairobi’s residential neighborhoods.
