On Sunday, July 26, 2025, a peaceful afternoon at a Saika salon in Nairobi was shattered when armed robbers invaded the premises during a chama meeting. The attackers made away with KSh 50,000 in pooled funds and several mobile phones.
Salon owner Philis Kimani recounted the harrowing incident, revealing that the women had gathered for their regular savings meeting when the robbery occurred. Initially mistaking one of the suspects for a customer, the group was caught off guard when he suddenly pulled out a firearm.
According to Philis, the suspect entered calmly, greeted those inside, then brandished his gun and ordered everyone to remain silent and place their phones on the table. He proceeded to seize the phones and the chama money before fleeing.
Reviewing CCTV footage later, it was discovered that three robbers were involved: two entered the salon while a third waited outside with a motorcycle getaway vehicle.
