Arsenal CEO Confirms Mikel Arteta Set to Sign New Contract Soon
Arsenal CEO Richard Garlick says manager Mikel Arteta will sign a contract extension shortly, securing his future after last season's Premier League triumph.
Arsenal's chief executive, Richard Garlick, has announced that manager Mikel Arteta is expected to sign a new contract with the Premier League champions in the near future.
Arteta, who led Arsenal to their first league title in 22 years last season, is currently in the final year of his existing deal. Despite previous concerns among fans about the lack of progress on a new agreement, Garlick expressed confidence that the extension will be completed soon.
Speaking to the BBC, Garlick said, "Mikel wants to be at Arsenal and we want Mikel at Arsenal. It's only a matter of time before we put that into a new contract." He added that the club remains calm and focused on navigating the ongoing transfer window while finalizing Arteta’s contract.
Since taking charge in 2019, Arteta has transformed Arsenal’s fortunes, guiding the team to the Champions League final and clinching the English Premier League title last season. His previous contract extension was signed in September 2024, and the new deal is anticipated to be completed by the end of August 2026.
Arsenal will begin their title defense with a home match against promoted Coventry City on Friday as the new Premier League season kicks off.
