Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has called on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to expand his campaign beyond Western Kenya, urging the region to first consolidate support before reaching out nationally ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Babu highlighted that he, Sifuna, and the Linda Mwananchi movement have already toured 16 counties, with plans to cover all 47 counties, 490 constituencies, and over 1,200 wards and villages in search of votes.
Unity in Western Kenya
"Western Kenya has played a crucial role in bringing the presidential seat home. We must ensure the region is united and fully behind Senator Sifuna," Babu said, emphasizing the importance of locking down support in Bungoma and the wider Western region.
Planned Outreach to Other Regions
- After securing Western Kenya, Babu proposed that Sifuna should tour Nyanza, a region that reportedly supports him.
- He suggested engaging former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i in Kisii for dialogue.
- Babu also recommended reaching out to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, noting the Kamba community's affinity for Sifuna.
- Finally, he proposed discussions with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Mount Kenya region to broaden political alliances.
Sifuna’s Vision for Opposition Unity
On Saturday, Senator Sifuna reaffirmed the opposition’s commitment to present a single candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the upcoming election. Speaking in Trans Nzoia County during the Linda Mwananchi tour, Sifuna emphasized the need to avoid vote splitting by uniting all opposition factions.
He called for inclusive engagement with leaders across all regions, including Gusii, Western, Kamba, and Mount Kenya communities, stressing that defeating the Kenya Kwanza administration requires a united front irrespective of political or regional backgrounds.
