Political analyst and former aide to ex-Embu Governor Martin Wambora, Bosco Kiura, has declared his intention to vie for the Manyatta parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) banner.

In an interview with TUKO.co.ke, Kiura expressed confidence that UDA still enjoys significant grassroots support in Manyatta Constituency, despite the growing influence of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) across the Mt Kenya region.

UDA's Position in Manyatta

Kiura acknowledged DCP's gains but emphasized that the political contest remains closely fought. He believes Manyatta is one of the few constituencies where UDA maintains a slight advantage over rival parties.

"While DCP's popularity is rising in Mt Kenya, UDA remains a strong contender. In Manyatta, the ruling party retains an edge," Kiura stated, adding that UDA's role as the governing party positions it well to deliver development benefits to constituents.

Current Seat Holder and Political Dynamics

The seat is currently held by first-term MP John Gitonga Mukunji, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Mukunji is reportedly planning to run for the Embu gubernatorial seat on a DCP ticket, opening the Manyatta seat for new contenders.

Development Projects Bolstering UDA's Appeal

Kiura highlighted several government initiatives in Embu County under President William Ruto's administration, including:

  • A KSh 1.2 billion modern market
  • Nine additional markets across the county
  • A KSh 450 million maternal and child healthcare facility
  • An industrial park

He also noted improved prices for coffee, tea, and milk farmers as indicators of government support.

Looking ahead, infrastructure projects like the Nithi Bridge construction and the dualling of the Makutano–Embu–Meru Road are expected to further enhance UDA's standing before the elections.

Call for Integrity in Leadership

Kiura criticized some potential rivals for allegedly funding their campaigns through businesses linked to alcohol and drug abuse, warning against exploiting communities for political gain.

He positioned himself as part of a new leadership generation committed to integrity and sustainable development for Embu residents.

"My aim is not just to win but to serve effectively," Kiura concluded.
