A family in Bungoma County is appealing for urgent assistance to repatriate the body of their relative, Sarah Nangila Kaita, who passed away in Qatar on July 19, 2026, following a prolonged illness.
Sarah, a mother of three, left Kenya in October 2025 in pursuit of better opportunities. However, shortly after arriving in Qatar, her health deteriorated rapidly, leading to hospitalisation and surgery.
Health Decline and Hospitalisation
According to her nephew, Kevin Juma, Sarah first experienced severe abdominal pain in early June 2026. She sought medical care but was admitted to Al Wakra Hospital on June 22, where her condition worsened, necessitating intensive care for about four weeks.
Despite brief hopes of recovery, Sarah succumbed to her illness on July 19. The family was informed of her passing by phone, a call that left them devastated.
Challenges in Repatriation
Since the death, the family has struggled to coordinate the return of Sarah’s remains. The sponsor who initially supported her has ceased communication, complicating the repatriation process.
They note that Sarah’s lack of a Qatar identification card has further hindered efforts to bring her body home.
Call for Government Intervention
Sarah’s niece, Sheilah Nyangweso, has made an emotional plea to the State Department for Diaspora Affairs and the Kenyan Embassy in Qatar to intervene and facilitate the repatriation.
The family also appeals to well-wishers across Kenya to support them during this difficult time as they seek to give Sarah a dignified burial in her homeland.
