Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed China's readiness to strengthen both bilateral and multilateral strategic coordination with Brazil during a phone call with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Monday.
Xi highlighted recent progress in building a China-Brazil community with a shared future, noting the positive impact on both countries' development and global stability. He emphasized that this year marks the 105th anniversary of the Communist Party of China and the start of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, while Brazil prepares for key domestic political developments.
In light of new global challenges, Xi urged both nations, as influential Global South members, to uphold international fairness and justice and to play a constructive role in reforming global governance. He called for advancing high-quality cooperation within BRICS, maintaining unity, and fostering solidarity and self-reliance among developing countries.
China values Brazil’s international role and supports its sovereignty and independence, opposing external interference, Xi added.
President Lula acknowledged the rapid growth in bilateral cooperation, with trade reaching record levels and cultural exchanges strengthening ties between the peoples of both countries. He expressed Brazil’s interest in expanding collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence, energy, and mineral resources, and welcomed increased Chinese investment to diversify partnerships.
Lula congratulated China on hosting the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and praised Xi’s vision for open, inclusive international cooperation in AI governance.
He reaffirmed Brazil’s commitment to multilateralism, the United Nations' authority, and solidarity within BRICS. Lula stressed opposition to power politics and advocated resolving international disputes through dialogue, aiming to uphold global peace, justice, and stability.
