Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) deputy leader Cleophas Malala has asserted that both he and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua risk imprisonment if President William Ruto secures a second term in the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a radio interview on July 29, 2026, Malala emphasized that this threat motivates their vigorous campaign to prevent Ruto from continuing in office beyond his current term.
Political Shift and Personal Stakes
Malala, who previously served as Kakamega senator, highlighted that he and Gachagua were instrumental in Ruto's 2022 presidential victory. Despite their past support, they are now determined to end his presidency through the ballot box.
“If Ruto is re-elected, Gachagua and I will be imprisoned. That is why we cannot rest,” Malala stated, underscoring the personal risks involved.
