The Kenyan champions, who started the tournament with a commanding 5-0 victory over Rwanda’s APR FC but stumbled with a narrow 1-0 loss to Uganda’s Vipers SC, know that a win in tonight’s (7:00 pm) encounter will guarantee their progression to the semi-finals.

Akonnor acknowledged that the defeat against Vipers was below expectations but highlighted it as a valuable learning experience for the team. He described the Kagame Cup as a "mini Champions League," noting the elevated level of competition compared to friendly matches.
"This tournament has exposed us to what is expected at a higher competitive level," Akonnor said, adding that the squad held an open discussion to address both their strengths and weaknesses following the loss.

The Ghanaian tactician pointed out that Vipers outmatched Gor Mahia in midfield and capitalized on their opportunities, urging his team to respond with greater determination in their upcoming match.
"We need to show character, be determined, and start the game strongly," he stated, dismissing speculation about his future and affirming his commitment to the club despite criticism.

New addition Paul Okoth, recently signed from Ulinzi Stars, expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness and ambition ahead of the crucial fixture.
