Seventeen individuals arrested for allegedly disrupting a public participation meeting on the proposed nuclear power plant in Bondo Sub-County have been released on bail.
The suspects faced charges related to attacking government officials and vandalizing a motorcade during the forum held in Central Sakwa location last Friday.
They were arraigned before Bondo Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti and granted bail of Ksh.15,000 cash or a Ksh.50,000 bond each.
Police apprehended the youths at Ka’John, Lenya, and Nango trading centers the day after the incident. The prosecution had requested to detain them longer pending investigations into potential terrorism-related offenses, but the magistrate denied the request, citing insufficient grounds to withhold bail.
The court ordered the suspects to report to the area DCIO’s office on July 28, July 30, and August 3, 2026, to facilitate ongoing investigations. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will then decide whether to file formal charges.
