Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has reiterated the government's dedication to increasing access to affordable and reliable electricity across Kenya. Speaking during the commissioning of the Kenya Power Last Mile Connectivity Project in Uriri Subcounty, Migori County, CS Wandayi emphasized the role of power expansion in fostering socio-economic development.

The government has allocated over Sh2 billion for electricity infrastructure improvements in Migori, with a significant focus on Uriri Subcounty. A major highlight is the planned upgrade of the Gogo Hydropower Station from its current 2 megawatts capacity to 8.6 megawatts, a project valued at Sh6 billion. Funding for this upgrade has been secured through development partners, with support from President William Ruto and Uriri MP Mark Nyamita.

CS Wandayi encouraged residents of Luo Nyanza to continue backing President Ruto, citing ongoing infrastructure projects that are transforming the region. MP Nyamita, present at the event, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring universal electricity access within his constituency, pointing out that enhanced power connectivity will stimulate business growth, improve education, and enhance security.

The commissioning of the Last Mile Connectivity Project marks a key milestone in the government's efforts to achieve universal electricity access in Migori County. The initiative aims to connect more homes, schools, businesses, and public institutions to the national grid, thereby boosting economic opportunities and improving quality of life for residents.
