The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has taken over the investigation into the fatal shooting of Victoria Nthunya Mutiso, a clinical psychologist and mental health researcher, who was killed on Wednesday morning in Nairobi's Upper Hill.
According to a DCI statement, homicide detectives and forensic experts responded promptly to the scene, securing evidence and interviewing witnesses. Investigators also visited the medical facility where Mutiso was taken after the shooting.
Preliminary findings indicate that Mutiso had requested an Uber ride before sustaining the fatal injuries, though the exact circumstances remain under investigation. Detectives are following several leads, including identifying persons of interest, as they work to reconstruct the events leading to the shooting.
The DCI expressed condolences to Mutiso's family and emphasized its commitment to conducting a thorough, impartial, and professional inquiry to bring those responsible to justice. The agency urged the public to avoid speculation and to provide any relevant information through the #FichuaKwaDCI platform or at the nearest police station.
About Victoria Mutiso
Mutiso served as the Head of Research at the Africa Mental Health Research and Training Foundation (AMHRTF). She was recognized for her contributions to child and adolescent mental health, substance abuse, community mental health, and developing culturally appropriate interventions. Her work focused on improving mental health services for marginalized communities, including youth in informal settlements and rural areas.
She was also involved in several local and international research projects, including co-leading Project HOPE, a global health initiative addressing severe mental illness among homeless populations in Africa.
