Governor Irungu Kang’ata Leads the Shift
Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata was among the first high-profile leaders to leave UDA for DCP. Prior to the by-election, Kang’ata had aligned with the Linda Mwananchi faction of ODM, but the DCP win prompted him to announce plans to contest the Murang’a parliamentary seat under the DCP banner in 2027. His move marked the entry of a sitting Mt Kenya governor into DCP, signaling a broader reconsideration among senior officials of their political affiliations.
Nyandarua Governor Badilisha Joins DCP
Following Kang’ata’s lead, Nyandarua Governor Badilisha also defected to DCP, citing the will of his constituents as a key factor.
