The Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), led by Rigathi Gachagua, plans to pay tribute to the late Richard Raymond Otieno during their ongoing tour of Nakuru County. Otieno, a prominent youth leader and human rights activist from Elburgon in Molo Constituency, was murdered in 2025.
Peter Mbae, DCP economic adviser and National Executive Committee member, announced the tribute ahead of the party’s visit to Elburgon. He described Otieno as a hero of the Third Liberation who was killed while advocating for justice.
Who Was Richard Otieno?
Known locally as the Molo President, Otieno was a vocal critic of local and national leadership. On January 18, 2025, he was attacked and fatally wounded outside his apartment near Elburgon Police Station. The assault involved severe head injuries inflicted with a sharp instrument, confirmed by autopsy as the cause of death.
Otieno had participated in the 2024 protests and had previously reported threats and an assault. His killing sparked widespread outrage, with residents blocking roads and demanding justice. Investigations revealed the attack was a hired assassination, leading to several arrests, some of whom are now facing murder charges.
DCP’s Nakuru County Tour
Gachagua’s tour continues with plans to open the DCP Nakuru County office and visit key towns including Njoro Posta, Elburgon, Molo Keep Left, and Rongai Town. The tour follows a tense incident where Gachagua’s convoy was stoned in Nakuru West, an attack he attributes to rival government-aligned politicians.
