Dennis Itumbi, Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects, has denied claims that Francis Gachuri, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s communication chief, was removed from a State House WhatsApp group.
The rumors, which surfaced on July 29, 2026, sparked speculation about possible shifts within the Kenya Kwanza administration. The initial report came from DCP TV, alleging Gachuri’s removal at around 4:20 a.m., and questioned Itumbi’s silence on the matter.
Itumbi responded on Facebook with a sarcastic post mocking the circulating stories and the platforms spreading them. He joked about forgetting to remove Gachuri from the group and requested links to the so-called WhatsApp group named “Ujinga na Uwongo Kila Siku,” highlighting the prevalence of unverified political gossip online.
He concluded his message by saying, “Sina mengi ya kusema kwa sasa” (I have little to say at this time), signaling no further comment.
Deputy President Kindiki Denies Rift with President Ruto
The controversy around Gachuri’s status came shortly after Deputy President Kindiki dismissed reports of a fallout with President William Ruto. Kindiki refuted claims that he had lost key government coordination duties, which were reportedly reassigned to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
These reports followed a local newspaper’s story suggesting Mudavadi would now serve as the main liaison between the national government and county governments, a role traditionally linked to the Deputy President’s office. Kindiki labeled these reports as false without elaborating.
Kenya Kwanza Leadership Under Public Scrutiny
The developments have intensified scrutiny of internal dynamics within the Kenya Kwanza government ahead of the 2027 General Election. Since his appointment as Deputy President after Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment in late 2024, Kindiki has kept a low profile while remaining aligned with President Ruto.
Despite ongoing online discussions, no official confirmation has emerged from State House or the Deputy President’s office regarding changes to communication teams, WhatsApp groups, or government coordination roles.
