On July 29, Dennis Itumbi, Head of Creative Economy and Special Projects in the Executive Office of the President, responded with sarcasm to circulating reports that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki's aide, Francis Gachuri, had been removed from a State House WhatsApp group.
The claims, initially shared by DCP TV, alleged that Gachuri was dropped from the group around 4:20 a.m., suggesting political significance behind the move. The outlet also questioned why Itumbi had not addressed the matter earlier.
In his response, Itumbi did not directly confirm or deny the removal but instead mocked the narrative. He implied that if any WhatsApp group needed cleaning, he would personally handle it. He wrote:
"By the way, Francis Gachuri, are you still in that Kupepeta Ball group? I forgot to remove you from that one too. Let me scroll through a bit and finish the job. Or you can just tell me, and we'll make it easier by removing you from all the groups."
Itumbi also criticized platforms spreading unverified political stories daily, jokingly asking for the link to a WhatsApp group named "Nonsense and Lies Every Day" to keep up with the rumors.
This episode comes shortly after Deputy President Kindiki publicly refuted reports of a strained relationship with President William Ruto. On July 27, Kindiki dismissed claims that his office was sidelined following alleged reassignment of intergovernmental coordination duties to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
The reassignment was reported by a local daily, which suggested that the role of liaison between the national and county governments was moved from Kindiki's office to Mudavadi’s, under the direction of Chief of Staff Felix Koskei.
