Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has publicly challenged former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of theft, land grabbing, and efforts to destabilize the government while serving as Deputy President.

Kindiki's response came after Gachagua made remarks targeting him, which Kindiki dismissed as politically empty. He outlined what he described as a history of misconduct by Gachagua, including a poor exit from the civil service as a District Officer, an unremarkable term as Mathira MP, and an ineffective two years as Deputy President.

Allegations Against Gachagua

  • Joining President William Ruto's team while facing public funds theft charges.
  • Organizing protests in Mathira to pressure party leadership for the running mate position.
  • Engaging in greed and causing rifts with Mount Kenya leaders, including close political allies.
  • Acquiring land and investing in hotels during his Deputy Presidency tenure.
  • Inciting public dissent against the government he served.

On Policy and Conduct

Kindiki refuted claims that Gachagua overruled him on alcohol policy during his time as Interior Cabinet Secretary, emphasizing his focus on security issues such as banditry and terrorism. He also revealed that he advised Gachagua privately to mend relations with President Ruto and other leaders, advice that was ignored.

He reiterated his refusal to join any sabotage against the government he helped establish, saying, "I let you be, but I refused to join you in sabotaging a government we had formed."

Warning to Mount Kenya Residents

Closing his statement, Kindiki warned Gachagua against misleading Mount Kenya voters with what he called "useless slogans and chants," signaling a firm stance against what he views as divisive political tactics.
