Deputy President Kithure Kindiki convened a high-level inter-agency meeting on Tuesday, 28 July, focusing on the progress of the proposed Eastern Africa Oil Refinery project. The gathering included Cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries, and heads of government agencies tasked with advancing the initiative.
The discussions reviewed the legal, regulatory, and administrative frameworks already established, alongside strategies for engaging stakeholders in the coming weeks.
Denial of Duty Reassignment
The meeting took place shortly after reports claimed that President William Ruto had reassigned some of Kindiki's responsibilities to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. Kindiki promptly dismissed these allegations as "fake news," a stance echoed by State House through Dennis Itumbi, who affirmed that the Deputy President retains all his constitutional and statutory duties.
Ongoing Role in Government
Kindiki's active role in steering the refinery project indicates his continued involvement at the highest levels of government despite circulating speculation about his position. Previously, he reaffirmed his loyalty to the Kenya Kwanza administration during the 11th Annual Farmers Field Day in Meru Town, countering calls for his removal.
