Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has declared his steadfast loyalty to President William Ruto, committing to support the president’s re-election campaign in 2027.

In a Facebook post dated July 29, 2026, Barasa reflected on his political journey alongside that of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, noting that both faced resistance from senior leaders within the Luhya community early in their careers due to their youth and perceived inexperience.

Barasa explained that while Sifuna found mentorship and backing from former ODM leader Raila Odinga, which propelled him to the position of ODM secretary general, Barasa himself credits President Ruto for his political advancement.

He emphasized the importance of loyalty, stating that:

  • “Had Raila been alive, Sifuna would still be standing sacrosanctly behind him.”
  • “For the same reason, I will never abandon William Ruto.”

Barasa further affirmed his readiness to campaign vigorously for Ruto’s second term, even if he becomes one of the few defenders of the president within political circles.

This declaration comes amid heightened political activity by Sifuna, who is leading the Linda Mwananchi movement. Sifuna recently revealed that he and his allies were removed from the ODM WhatsApp group, signaling a possible fallout with the party.

While not formally announcing a presidential bid, Sifuna indicated that Linda Mwananchi is exploring the option of fielding a candidate for the 2027 General Election. He stressed that any decision to run would be collective and contingent on the movement’s support base, which they intend to build nationwide.
