Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga has issued a stern warning to politicians and individuals involved in hate speech, political violence, and goonism as Kenya prepares for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at the 38th National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) Conference in Mombasa, Ingonga emphasized that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is collaborating closely with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to hold perpetrators accountable.
Crackdown on Inflammatory Political Conduct
The DPP expressed concern over the increasing instances of inflammatory rhetoric and disruptions at political events. He vowed that no one involved in such acts would be spared from prosecution.

"We only have one country, Kenya, and we will not allow some individuals to drag others into anarchy," Ingonga stated.

Chief Justice Martha Koome highlighted that the judiciary and related institutions are ramping up preparations for the upcoming polls. Training sessions for judges, magistrates, and judicial staff are planned to enhance their ability to manage election-related disputes effectively.
Koome underscored the importance of coordination among justice sector agencies to ensure a peaceful electoral process and uphold the rule of law.

The DPP's remarks coincide with ongoing NCIC investigations into complaints against several political figures over alleged hate speech. Additionally, President William Ruto has directed security agencies to take firm action against criminal gangs and individuals involved in election-related violence and property destruction.
