The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended three individuals linked to the suspected misappropriation of Sh4.8 million allocated for electricity transformer projects under the Igembe North National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) during the 2014/2015 fiscal year.
The funds were intended for the purchase and installation of six transformers across various locations including Buathine, Ethiopia, Ntobocui, Luciuti MCK, Marere Centre, and Muurune. Each transformer had an allocation of Sh800,000.
Investigations revealed that the money was transferred into six separate project bank accounts but was withdrawn on the same day by the suspects, who are signatories to these accounts. Despite claims by the NG-CDF committee of engaging the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) and Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) to execute the project, both agencies confirmed no payments or communications were received regarding this procurement.
Further findings indicated that no transformers were ever purchased or installed at the designated sites.
Following the investigation, the EACC forwarded the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who authorized prosecution. The suspects are set to face charges including conspiracy to commit corruption, unlawful acquisition of public property, abuse of office, and misappropriation of Constituency Development Funds.
One additional suspect has been directed to report to the EACC’s Upper Eastern Regional Office in Isiolo or any nearby office for further processing.
EACC emphasized its commitment to protecting public resources and ensuring accountability for corruption and economic crimes.
