Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has revealed that he and fellow leaders aligned with the Linda Mwananchi movement were expelled from the ODM party's WhatsApp groups shortly after a political rally held in Kitale, Trans Nzoia county.
Speaking on Citizen TV, Sifuna described the move as a clear indication that the ODM leadership has severed ties with his faction. He noted ongoing efforts within the Senate to reassign him and other allies from influential committee positions.
Senate Committee Reassignments
- Sifuna is set to be moved from the County Public Accounts Committee to the Fisheries Committee.
- Senator Godfrey Osotsi faces removal as chairperson of the County Public Investments Committee.
While Sifuna acknowledged these changes might be intended as punitive, he framed them as opportunities to gain expertise in areas like agriculture and the blue economy.
Expulsion from ODM Digital Platforms
The senator recounted that the expulsion from the WhatsApp groups came immediately after their rally, emphasizing that the party leadership, not his group, initiated the separation.
"It is ODM that is done with us. When you are removed from WhatsApp groups, it is a clear sign they have had enough," he stated.
Future Political Plans
Given the widening divide, Sifuna indicated the possibility of forming a new political party to continue advancing their agenda, as they have been declared persona non grata within ODM.
Despite the fallout, he remains confident that many long-standing ODM supporters continue to back the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Lighthearted Remarks
In a lighter moment, Sifuna humorously blamed Citizen TV host Yvonne Okwara for some of the controversies arising from his media appearances, pledging to continue speaking candidly.
