Senator Edwin Sifuna and his Linda Mwananchi team made a notable entry into Bungoma County on Sunday, 26 July 2026, concluding their Western Kenya tour with a major rally at Posta Grounds.
The convoy, which moved through Trans Nzoia into Bungoma, was welcomed by enthusiastic crowds lining the roads. The team had spent the previous day in Trans Nzoia, holding a rally in Kitale and attending a church service.
On Sunday morning, the group stopped in Kiminini where residents handed over small cash donations directly to the senator. The procession then proceeded to Bungoma, pausing at Kamukuywa market for a roadside rally before moving through Kimilili and Chwele en route to the final event in Bungoma town.
Sifuna Critiques Government Policies
At both Kiminini and Kamukuywa, Senator Sifuna sharply criticized President William Ruto’s Affordable Housing initiative. He questioned the logic of erecting multi-storey buildings while police allegedly use harsh tactics against protesters.
“How can he put up a 12-storey building in the village and then instruct the police to shoot us in the leg? How are we supposed to access the buildings?” Sifuna asked the crowd, underscoring the contradiction between development projects and alleged violence against youth.
The senator emphasized that while the movement supports infrastructure like roads, hospitals, and stadiums, it firmly opposes violence targeting young people. “We do not hate William Ruto. It is he who hates the youth,” he stated.
Concerns Over Social Health Authority Payments and County Budgets
Addressing healthcare issues, Sifuna revealed that Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka had privately informed him that local hospitals had not received payments from the Social Health Authority (SHA).
“The treatment is deceiving us that SHA is working. When Governor Lusaka comes to the Senate, he tells me quietly, ‘Sifuna, say SHA has not paid Bungoma hospitals.’ Why don’t you say it yourself?” the senator questioned.
He further accused the national government of constraining county budgets and directly challenged Governor Lusaka, saying: “Lusaka kama Governor unajua adui mkubwa wa ugatuzi, yule mtu amekufinyilia kama Governor ni William Ruto.”
Strong Support for 2027 Campaign
Along the route, thousands of supporters contributed funds towards the Linda Mwananchi movement’s 2027 campaign, highlighting growing momentum ahead of the elections.
