A Kiambu family is calling for justice following the alleged murder of 30-year-old Mary Mwende Mutie, who was reportedly stabbed by her husband, Dr. Dennis Masoba Nyambane, at their apartment on August 7.
Dr. Masoba, a consultant general surgeon at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, allegedly attacked Mwende with a kitchen knife. She tried to flee via the staircase but collapsed before reaching safety. A postmortem examination confirmed death due to severe blood loss.
Last Message Reveals Marital Struggles
In a poignant moment, Mwende’s mother, Mary Nyamweya, shared the final message her daughter sent shortly before the incident: "Hi mum, I told him that I want to walk out of this marriage. I am emotionally and physically worn out. I feel like I have reached my limits..."
The family disclosed that the couple, together since 2021 and parents to a three-year-old son, had been grappling with ongoing conflicts largely fueled by Dr. Masoba’s heavy alcohol consumption and erratic behavior. Nyamweya recounted how her daughter often endured late-night fights and periods when her husband would be absent for days.
Legal Proceedings and Family Concerns
Dr. Masoba was arraigned on August 10, with the court granting a seven-day detention and ordering a psychiatric evaluation. However, Mwende’s family expressed skepticism about the fairness of the mental health review, citing that the suspect works alongside medical staff in the same county health system, raising fears of potential bias.
"Those are his colleagues. How are we sure that we will find justice? He would have been assessed somewhere he is not known. We are crying and hurting. We ask the government to give us justice for our child," Nyamweya stated.

The family described Mary Mwende as a gentle and humble woman. They urge authorities to conduct an impartial investigation free from interference to ensure accountability in this tragic case.
