On Tuesday, July 28, a police patrol vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED) along a main supply route in Arabia, Mandera county, resulting in the deaths of five security personnel.
The casualties included four officers from the elite Special Operations Group (SOG) and one National Police Reservist (NPR). The blast destroyed the vehicle instantly, killing all occupants on the spot.
Mandera county security officials confirmed the incident and have launched investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
In response, additional security forces were deployed to the area to track the attackers, who are believed to have fled towards the Somali border. No group has claimed responsibility for the assault so far.

The Arabia region and wider Mandera county have faced repeated cross-border attacks attributed to al-Shabaab militants based in Somalia. Security personnel and infrastructure remain frequent targets, with IEDs along patrol and supply routes causing multiple fatalities in previous incidents.
