A tragic drowning incident occurred in Meru County when a four-year-old boy slipped into a neighbour's fish pond while attempting to cut oranges. The incident took place in Kiutine area of Kiengu Sub-county on Monday, leaving the family devastated.

According to police reports, the boy’s father informed authorities that his son accidentally fell into the pond during the activity. Officers who responded to the scene confirmed the drowning after a preliminary examination revealed no external injuries, suggesting drowning as the cause of death.

The boy’s body was transported to Nyambene Level 4 Hospital Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

Other Drowning Incidents Reported

  • In Machakos County, a 66-year-old man named Muia Kithome drowned after falling into a well while fetching water in Mulingana 'C' Village, Ndithini Sub-county. Police noted the man had a history of epilepsy, which may have contributed to the fall. The body was taken to Daniel Comboni Mission Mortuary for an autopsy.
  • In Lamu County, 21-year-old Dorothy Gaseli drowned in a dam in Lamu West Sub-county. She was reported missing before her body was found floating in the water. Investigators suspect she suffered an epileptic seizure prior to drowning. Her body is at Mpeketoni Sub-County Referral Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.

All three cases are under police investigation, with preliminary findings indicating accidental drowning as the cause of death.
