Rev. Fr. Lewis Kamamo’s path to priesthood was marked by unexpected challenges and unwavering determination. Initially aiming for a career in the Kenya Defence Forces, Kamamo was shortlisted as a specialist officer but was ultimately rejected during the recruitment process.

Encouraged by authorities to seek alternative ways to serve the nation, Kamamo redirected his calling towards the Catholic Church. He began training for the priesthood, embracing a new form of service grounded in faith.

Challenges Along the Way

Kamamo’s journey was further interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced him to pause his seminary training temporarily. Despite these setbacks, his commitment remained strong, fueled by prayer and resilience.

His perseverance culminated in his ordination alongside six other deacons at the Holy Family Minor Basilica in Nairobi, a prominent Catholic site in Kenya.

New Beginnings in Ministry

Following his ordination, Rev. Fr. Kamamo received his first pastoral assignment at Our Lady of Fatima Kiriko Parish in Kiambu under the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi. His story has inspired many as an example of adapting purpose through adversity.

What began as a dream to serve in military uniform transformed into a meaningful vocation leading a parish community.

Inspiring Parallel Stories

Kamamo’s experience echoes other remarkable narratives within Kenya’s Catholic community, such as the recent ordination of two brothers from Kitui County on the same day, a rare and celebrated event.

  • Rev. Fr. Julius Nguthu Muthoka and Rev. Fr. Nicholas Mutinda Muthoka made history at St Charles Lwanga School.
  • Their family expressed deep gratitude for witnessing both sons dedicate their lives to the Church.
