Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled a series of political engagements in Nakuru and Laikipia counties as part of the Democracy for the Citizens Party's (DCP) intensified grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Upcoming Tours
The DCP leader is set to kick off his tour in Laikipia County on Friday, August 1, 2026, with a major rally in Nanyuki. This event, announced by Laikipia DCP Woman Leader Cate Waruguru, aims to consolidate the party’s influence in the Mt Kenya region.
Following Laikipia, Gachagua will embark on a two-day tour in Nakuru County scheduled for August 14 and 15. The itinerary includes rallies across key towns such as Naivasha, Nakuru Town West, and Nakuru Town East on the first day. The second day will see visits to Ijoro, Elburgon, Turi, Molo, Kibunja, and Rongai Centre, where he will engage residents and promote the party’s agenda.
Growing Party Support
These tours coincide with a significant boost for DCP as 24 sitting Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Laikipia and Nakuru counties officially joined the party. The delegation met with Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence on July 29, 2026.
Commenting on the influx, Gachagua noted a "mass exodus" from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Service Party (TSP), predicting these parties will be weakened by year-end. He expressed optimism about the momentum DCP is gaining ahead of the polls.
Strategic Political Moves
By expanding its grassroots presence through these tours and new memberships, DCP aims to strengthen its foothold in critical political regions including the Rift Valley and Mt Kenya. The party is rallying local leaders, officials, and supporters to build a unified front for the 2027 elections.
