Democratic Change Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has vowed to escalate his political activities in Nakuru County following an attack on his convoy on August 14, 2026.
The incident occurred in Kaptembwa, Nakuru Town West Constituency, where several vehicles in Gachagua's convoy were damaged by stone pelting and crude weapons. Gachagua accused Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika and Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama of orchestrating the attack.
Speaking during the opening of a new DCP office in Nakuru Town East on August 15, Gachagua criticized the police for their inaction during the assault and labeled Arama a political "mole" aligned with President William Ruto. He questioned Arama’s ties to the Jubilee Party amid shifting political alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
Commitment to Nakuru Ahead of 2027 Polls
Despite the attack, Gachagua reaffirmed his determination to deepen his political presence in Nakuru, citing the county's significant voter population. "I will be camping in Nakuru to ensure I get votes here," he declared, emphasizing plans to expand DCP's grassroots operations in the region.
Focus on Unseating Governor Kihika
Gachagua also signaled his intent to contest the Nakuru gubernatorial seat, pledging to work towards unseating Governor Kihika, who seeks re-election in 2027. This move highlights the growing political rivalry in Nakuru as parties ramp up mobilisation efforts ahead of the general election.
