Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has projected that President William Ruto will garner a mere two percent of the vote in the Mt Kenya region during the 2027 General Election. Speaking from his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri, Gachagua emphasized that the region has consolidated its political stance, voting as a unified bloc.
He pointed to the recent Ol Kalou by-election as a clear indicator of the political direction in Mt Kenya, describing the contest as a direct face-off between President Ruto and the local electorate rather than between individual candidates.
Mt Kenya Votes as One
- Gachagua stated that the community’s overwhelming support in the by-election demonstrated the region’s rejection of President Ruto’s influence.
- He warned that any leaders in the 11 counties of Mt Kenya who align with Ruto risk losing their seats, predicting they would secure no more than 10% of the vote.
- Gachagua dismissed attempts to politically divide the region into Mt Kenya East and West, affirming that voters have rejected such narratives.
Political Party Growth and Alliances
During the event, Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha expressed confidence in Gachagua’s presidential ambitions. The meeting also highlighted the recent entry of Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata into Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), signaling the party’s expanding influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua expressed optimism that DCP would field candidates nationwide and become a significant force in Parliament and county assemblies.
