Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has urged Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) aspirants and supporters to reject violence and embrace peaceful competition as the party prepares for the 2027 General Election nominations.

Speaking during a meeting with leaders in Nyandarua County on Wednesday, Gachagua emphasized the importance of democratic conduct in political contests. He cautioned that violent actions would weaken party unity and undermine collective efforts.

He praised the peaceful atmosphere witnessed during the recent Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election and encouraged party members to uphold this spirit as competition intensifies for various elective seats.

Gachagua stated: "I want peaceful meetings. I do not want people fighting or causing chaos during political rallies. Let us compete democratically because whoever wins will be supported by everyone. If you injure someone during the contest, do you think they will support you afterwards?"

The former Deputy President also expressed disappointment over a recent violent incident involving supporters at a political gathering, urging members to maintain brotherhood and respect despite political differences.

He appealed directly to leaders and supporters involved in disputes, including those aligned with Nyandarua Governor Kiarie Badilisha, to avoid confrontations and allow campaigns to proceed peacefully.

Earlier in the day, Governor Badilisha formally joined the DCP, alongside members of the Nyandarua County Assembly, committing to seek re-election on DCP tickets and participate in next year’s party primaries.

Gachagua assured that the upcoming party nominations would be conducted fairly and transparently.

  • He welcomed the new members, noting they brought a message of goodwill from Nyandarua residents.
  • He described the region's residents as committed to the country’s liberation agenda.
  • He highlighted the recent Ol Kalou by-election as indicative of the political mood in Mt Kenya ahead of 2027.
  • He reiterated calls for unity among Mt Kenya leaders to avoid vote splitting.

Gachagua’s remarks underscore the DCP’s ongoing efforts to build cohesion and strengthen its base as the general election approaches.
