Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has called on Kamau Ngotho, the newly sworn-in Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou, to focus immediately on serving his constituents following his landmark victory.
Ngotho secured the Ol Kalou seat in the July 16 by-election with 35,440 votes, significantly outpacing his closest rival from the United Democratic Alliance, Samuel Muchina, who garnered 5,450 votes. This win marks the first time DCP has gained representation in the National Assembly since the party's formation.
Call for Immediate Service Delivery
Addressing Ngotho shortly after his swearing-in on July 28, Gachagua emphasized that the period for campaigning and celebrations is over. He urged the MP to quickly transition into his legislative role, stressing the importance of listening to the electorate who gave him a decisive mandate.
Gachagua criticized the government's conduct during the by-election, alleging that over KSh 16 billion of taxpayers' money was spent on dubious projects and cash incentives aimed at influencing voters. He praised Ol Kalou residents for rejecting such tactics and standing firm in their choice.
Confidence in Ngotho’s Leadership
Having worked closely with Ngotho previously, Gachagua expressed strong confidence in the MP's ability to deliver on his promises and serve with distinction. He encouraged Ngotho to settle into his role quickly and prioritize the needs of his constituents.
This victory not only provides DCP with its first seat in Parliament but also symbolizes a significant political milestone following Gachagua’s impeachment as Deputy President in October 2024.
