Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua paid a visit to Mama Mary Temas in Mogondo village, Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, expressing sorrow over the lingering grief months after the death of her son, the late MP Johanna Ng’eno.

Ng’eno died on February 28, 2026, in a helicopter crash in Chepkiep village, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County. Gachagua noted that commitments made during the late leader’s funeral remain unfulfilled, although he did not specify the nature of these promises.

Call for Investigation into Ng’eno’s Death

Describing Ng’eno as a principled and courageous leader who championed equity and justice for his community, Gachagua highlighted the unresolved questions surrounding the circumstances of the crash.

“His untimely passing shook the entire nation, leaving many questions unanswered to this day,” he said, urging authorities to launch a thorough investigation. He further recommended involving international agencies such as Scotland Yard or the FBI to uncover the full truth behind the tragedy.

Honouring a Legacy and Community Bonds

During his visit, Gachagua laid a wreath at Ng’eno’s grave and pledged to immediately commence construction of a mausoleum to preserve the late MP’s memory.

He also shared agricultural produce with Mama Temas as a symbol of the enduring friendship between the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities.

“As a son of the Mountain, I was honoured to share some of my agricultural produce with Mama Mary Temas, symbolising the continued bond and friendship that no one can break,” Gachagua said.

Details of the Tragic Crash

The helicopter crash claimed six lives, including pilot George Were, photographer Nick Kosgei, Kenya Forest Service officer Amos Kipngetich Rotich, teacher Carlos Keter, Narok County protocol officer Wycliff Kiprotich Rono, and MP Johanna Ng’eno.

The aircraft had attempted an emergency landing amid poor weather conditions marked by mist and rain. It crashed into trees and burst into flames after trying to take off again.

Gachagua concluded by offering condolences to Mama Temas, praying for her comfort during this difficult time.

“May God comfort you, Mama,” he said.
