Garissa Woman Representative Udgoon Siyaad has appealed to politicians and voters to uphold respect and peaceful competition ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking in Garissa town during a distribution event for youth and women entrepreneurs, she stressed that political rivalry should not fracture community relations.

Udgoon highlighted the importance of political tolerance, urging supporters to avoid insults, personal attacks, and violence. She reminded Kenyans that elections are temporary but the bonds within communities endure beyond the polls.

Promoting Peaceful Participation

"Everyone has the right to support their preferred candidates without fear of abuse or confrontation," Udgoon said. She called on leaders to foster peaceful political engagement and discouraged actions that could deepen divisions.

She also encouraged citizens to register as voters and participate in elections peacefully, emphasizing that political contests should focus on the ballot rather than hostility.

Support for President Ruto

During the event, Udgoon announced that women representatives from Kenya's northeastern region have collectively decided to back President William Ruto's re-election bid. While they will compete individually for other positions, they remain united in supporting the presidential candidate.

Empowering Women and Youth

The distribution ceremony included motorcycles, sewing machines, and salon equipment valued at Sh22 million, funded by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund. The initiative aims to help beneficiaries launch or expand income-generating ventures, improving livelihoods in the region.

Udgoon's message comes amid rising political activities and occasional tensions as the country prepares for the 2027 elections. Her call for tolerance underscores the need for unity and peaceful coexistence despite political differences.
