Nairobi County Chief Officer for Public Participation, Geoffrey Mosiria, recently met with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula to deliberate on pressing social challenges and development priorities.
Addressing Street Families and Housing
The meeting focused heavily on the plight of street-connected families in Nairobi. Both leaders agreed on the necessity of a sustainable strategy providing shelter, education, healthcare, vocational training, and economic opportunities for these vulnerable groups. They also discussed efforts to reunite children and families with their relatives wherever possible.
Speaker Wetang'ula proposed integrating rehabilitated street families into the government's Affordable Housing Programme, aiming to secure stable and dignified living conditions for them.
Expanding Healthcare Access
Healthcare was a key topic, with an emphasis on increasing access to cancer treatment and services for chronic illnesses. The two highlighted the National Assembly's role in shaping legislation, securing funding, and ensuring free essential health services for all Kenyans, irrespective of their financial status.
Youth Empowerment and Long-Term Development
Discussions also covered youth empowerment, job creation, and enhancing public institutions to improve service delivery nationwide. Both Mosiria and Wetang'ula reflected on Kenya’s Vision 2060 framework, emphasizing investment in education, technology, infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, and human capital as pillars for sustained national transformation.
They underscored the importance of accountable leadership, strong institutions, and cooperation between national and county governments to achieve these goals.
Speaker Wetang'ula praised Mosiria’s commitment to citizen engagement and outreach, recognizing his efforts to support vulnerable communities.
"Kenya's transformation requires purposeful leadership, collaboration and a shared commitment to building a better future for every citizen," Mosiria stated after the meeting.
