Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has appointed Raila Taurayi Ernest as a member of the Nairobi City County Water and Sewerage Company's board. The appointment, effective from July 1, 2026, will last three years.

The decision was formalized through Gazette Notice No. 11256, under the Water Act, Companies Act, and Water Services Regulations 2025. Governor Sakaja invoked relevant sections of these laws to make the appointment.

The Nairobi City County Water and Sewerage Company is tasked with providing water and sewerage services to Nairobi residents. It plays a vital role in the county's efforts to improve access to clean water, expand sanitation infrastructure, and enhance service delivery.

This appointment continues the Odinga family's connection to the county's water utility. Raila Taurayi Ernest is the son of the late Beryl Achieng Odinga, who chaired the Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company after being appointed by former Governor Mike Sonko in 2020.

Beryl Odinga, who passed away on November 25, 2025, managed the agency during a period marked by challenges such as water shortages and aging infrastructure. Her death occurred shortly after the passing of her brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, in October 2025.

A family statement by Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga noted that Beryl was the daughter of the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mary Ajuma Odinga, and mother to Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurayi Ernest Raila.
