Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has challenged the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to summon former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over alleged hate speech before he agrees to appear for questioning.
Speaking in Garissa, Duale accused Gachagua of making divisive statements targeting ethnic communities, particularly the Somali community and Muslims, without facing any consequences. He criticized the NCIC for what he described as selective enforcement, claiming the commission is harsher on government officials while overlooking opposition leaders.
Duale stated:
- "If anyone has made hate speech, it is Rigathi Gachagua, who has never apologized."
- "Summon me only after you have questioned Gachagua, who should go in first."
- "I will not acknowledge or comply with any NCIC letter unless Gachagua is held accountable for his remarks."
The CS also insisted he would not apologize for his comments made in Mandera County, emphasizing his intent to rally his community in support of the government.
On Friday, NCIC announced it had opened investigations into Duale following a formal complaint alleging ethnic incitement linked to his statements in Mandera.
