Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has launched a public consultation on Kenya’s draft Artificial Intelligence and Other Emerging Technologies Policy 2026.
On Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Kabogo urged Kenyans to provide feedback on the policy, which will guide how the country develops, deploys, and regulates AI and related technologies. The consultation period runs until August 4, 2026.
Shaping Kenya’s AI Future
Kabogo emphasized that every technological revolution requires a choice between passively adopting innovation or actively shaping its trajectory. He invited a broad range of stakeholders—including innovators, researchers, software developers, entrepreneurs, universities, civil society, and students—to review and contribute to the draft policy.
Policy Objectives
- Establish a national framework for AI and emerging technologies development and governance.
- Promote innovation while safeguarding national interests and citizens’ rights.
- Address digital trust, data governance, security, and skills development.
- Ensure responsible use of AI aligned with Kenya’s 2025–2030 AI Strategy.
The policy builds on the Kenya Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030, which advocates for adaptable legal frameworks, local AI safety standards, and risk assessment mechanisms.
How to Participate
The draft policy document is accessible on the Ministry of ICT’s website. Citizens can submit their feedback through the Kenya Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology Policy Public Participation Form 2026 available online, with August 4 as the submission deadline.
Kabogo concluded by highlighting the importance of public input in crafting a policy that supports innovation, fosters public trust, and positions Kenya as a leading digital economy in Africa. “Your voice matters. Your ideas will help shape Kenya’s AI future,” he said.
