Joel Fitzpatrick, an Irish national, has shared a painful story of betrayal after losing KSh 83 million to a Kenyan woman he met through an online relationship. The woman reportedly orchestrated the scam over two years before he relocated to Kenya.
In an emotional interview with TUKO Talks, Fitzpatrick revealed how the woman confessed that their entire relationship was a fabrication designed to defraud him. "It felt like a bomb, a hand grenade going off in your face," he said about hearing her admission.
How the Scam Unfolded
- The couple began dating online about two years prior to Fitzpatrick’s move to Kenya.
- During this period, the woman allegedly worked with a lawyer who advised her on the legal steps and documentation needed to carry out the financial fraud.
- She had no intention of building a genuine life or working but focused solely on securing as much money as possible.
- Once she had collected what she wanted, she left their shared home with all the assets she had planned to take.
The emotional toll on Fitzpatrick was severe, leading him to turn to alcohol as he struggled to process the betrayal. Reports indicate that he is now homeless after losing his wealth to the scam.
