Lang'ata MP Jalang'o has taken a swipe at Senator Edwin Sifuna's campaign fundraising paybill during a gathering with Nairobi's Community Health Promoters (CHPs) on 25 July 2026.
The remarks followed President William Ruto's announcement of new government support measures for CHPs, including funding Social Health Authority premiums worth KSh 390 million and pledges of smartphones and medical kits to enhance digital healthcare delivery.
Jalang'o Questions Reliance on Public Fundraising
Speaking to nearly 8,000 CHPs, Jalang'o referenced Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja's calculations on the cost of supporting CHPs, estimating it at KSh 1.4 billion. He challenged the notion that such funds are unattainable by the government, asking, "Is that money that William cannot get?" The crowd responded with enthusiastic agreement.
Turning to Sifuna's paybill fundraiser, Jalang'o questioned the need for public fundraising, saying, "Must William use a paybill fundraiser for the money to raise? We know the paybill people — let them continue," which elicited laughter and cheers.
Political Mobilization Ahead of 2027 Elections
Jalang'o also encouraged CHPs to become political agents for their preferred parties in the upcoming 2027 general elections, urging them to align politically.
