Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has demanded the resignation of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and UDA Secretary-General Hassan Omar, accusing them of making divisive tribal statements that undermine national unity.
Speaking at a funeral in Mumoni, Mwingi North, Kitui County on July 25, 2026, Kalonzo condemned the Kenya Kwanza administration for failing to promote cohesion and insisted that leaders who exacerbate ethnic tensions should not hold public office.
"They have no reason to claim to be public leaders. They aren't. They have failed the test miserably," Kalonzo stated.
Controversial Remarks Under Investigation
Duale faces scrutiny following comments made in Lafey Constituency, perceived as derogatory towards the Mt Kenya community. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) is investigating the Health CS for alleged divisive speech.
However, Duale has refused to apologise, asserting that his words were misquoted and taken out of context. He explained that the Somali proverb he used, "Waraabe la-tagis bartay, ka-ridis waa ku dhib," was a figurative expression about the difficulty of changing entrenched habits, not an attack on any community.
"I stand by my remarks and will not apologise," he declared.
Omar's Apology Over Coast Land Comments
Meanwhile, Hassan Omar apologised after backlash from statements on historical land injustices in the Coast region, which some interpreted as targeting the Kikuyu community. Omar clarified his intention was to highlight long-standing grievances, not to demean any ethnic group, and expressed regret for any offence caused.
Renewed Calls for National Unity
The incidents have intensified calls for political leaders to exercise caution in their rhetoric and uphold constitutional principles that foster peaceful coexistence and unity among Kenya’s diverse communities.
