Bean prices across selected East African countries remained largely stable from May to June 2026, reveals the latest Food Security Monitor report by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).
Kenya recorded the highest bean prices in the region, with yellow beans averaging $1,190 per metric ton in May before easing to $1,152 in June. Red beans also declined slightly, from $966 to $932 per metric ton during the same period.
Uganda experienced the most notable month-on-month increase, with average bean prices rising from $687 in May to $826 in June. Tanzania's prices were nearly unchanged, inching up from $770 to $771 per metric ton. Meanwhile, Rwanda saw a modest decrease from $754 to $731 per metric ton.
These price movements reflect diverse supply and demand dynamics across East African markets. Kenya’s consistently higher prices suggest stronger market pressures or supply constraints, while Uganda’s sharp increase may indicate changing local conditions affecting availability or demand.
