The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a weather forecast predicting rainfall across ten counties and cold, cloudy conditions in five others over the next 24 hours.
Counties Expecting Rainfall
Rain is anticipated in parts of the following counties:
- Uasin Gishu
- Bungoma
- Kisumu
- Kericho
- Trans-Nzoia
- Elgeyo Marakwet
- Vihiga
- Nandi
- West Pokot
- Kakamega
Kericho has already recorded over 40mm of rain between August 12 and 13, while Eldoret Airport registered about 7mm. Other stations such as Osodo and Eldoret Met recorded lighter rainfall under 5mm.
Cold and Cloudy Weather
Cool, cloudy conditions are expected in parts of:
- Marsabit
- Murang'a
- Nyeri
- Nyandarua
- Laikipia
Strong Winds Forecast
Strong southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected across northern and coastal counties, including:
- Turkana
- Marsabit
- Isiolo
- Garissa
- Mandera
- Wajir
- Tana River
- Taita Taveta
- Kwale
- Kilifi
- Lamu
- Kitui
Temperature Outlook
Temperatures will vary significantly, with Mandera and Turkana recording the highest daytime temperatures at 36°C. Nyandarua and Nyeri are expected to be the coolest, with minimum temperatures dropping to 10°C.
Nairobi Weather
Nairobi will experience partly cloudy skies with sunny intervals, highs reaching 27°C and lows around 12°C.
Western Region
Counties in the western rainfall belt such as Kericho, Nandi, Bungoma, and Kakamega are likely to experience moderate showers and thunderstorms by Thursday afternoon, while Nyandarua may see light showers.
