The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a weather forecast valid from the evening of July 28 through July 29, 2026, predicting rainfall across 23 counties in various regions of the country.
Counties Expected to Receive Rainfall
Rain is anticipated in several counties within the Rift Valley, Western, Coast, and Central regions. The affected counties include:
- Rift Valley: Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Trans-Nzoia, Bomet, Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot
- Western: Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, Nyamira, Kisii
- Coast: Mombasa, Kwale, Lamu
- Central: Meru, Kirinyaga, Embu, Murang'a, Nyeri, Nyandarua
Weather Conditions and Temperatures
Alongside the rainfall, intermittent cool and cloudy spells are expected in counties such as Embu, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang'a, Nairobi, and surrounding areas. Residents should prepare for overcast skies and reduced sunshine during this period.
Temperature readings will vary by location, with daytime highs ranging from about 21°C to 30°C and nighttime lows between 11°C and 20°C. Afternoons may see sunny intervals, though showers and thunderstorms are likely in the evenings.
Strong Winds Warning
KMD has also highlighted strong southerly winds exceeding 25 knots across a corridor from northern to coastal counties. The areas under this alert include Marsabit, Isiolo, Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, and Lamu. Residents and travelers in these regions are advised to exercise caution, especially those involved in wind-sensitive activities like fishing and aviation.
