Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced planned electricity interruptions across several locations in Nyeri, Embu, and Kirinyaga counties on Monday, 27 July 2026.

The outages will occur between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM, affecting residential areas, schools, markets, and businesses. KPLC explained that the interruptions are necessary for maintenance works, upgrading power networks, and connecting new customers.

Nyeri County

Two zones in Nyeri will experience outages from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM:

  • Kamakwa and Kamuyu area: This includes Upper Parts of Ring Road, Baraka Estate, Kamakwa Market, Kamakwa Water Works, Muga Academy, Nyewasco Offices Kamakwa, Kamuyu C/Fact, Nyawira Estate, Kanoga, Gitathini, St. Xavier Academy, Mwonjoria, White House, Kandara Market, Mt. Kenya Salvation, PPOS Residence, and neighboring customers.
  • Kiawaiguru and Kariki area: Affected locations include Muthuthi-ini, Kiawaiguru, Mutito, Thangathi, Gitema-ini, Chehe Primary School, Kariki, Kariki Catholic Church, Safaricom and Airtel Boosters, and adjacent customers.

Embu County

Power supply will be interrupted from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM in the Kigumo and Kathunguri areas. The affected sites include Kegonge Secondary School, Kariru Secondary School, Gwa Kanjo, Mukuria Secondary School, Ngiori, Gataumwa, Kathugu C/Fact, Ngurukiri, and nearby customers.

Kirinyaga County

Residents in the Kavote, Kabare Girls, and Ithareini areas will face outages from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Locations impacted are Bekam Hotel, Kimunye T/Fact, Kavote, Mutige Boys, Ithareini Market, Gatunguru Primary School, Kabare Girls, Kiangwenyi, and surrounding customers.

KPLC urges all affected customers to prepare accordingly for the scheduled power interruptions.
