A Kenyan man named Simon, originally from Karura, remains stranded in Dubai after a severe illness led to hospitalization and a hefty medical bill he cannot pay.
Simon had traveled to the United Arab Emirates seeking improved economic opportunities, a common pursuit among many Kenyans. Unfortunately, his health declined rapidly, resulting in hospitalization where his medical expenses escalated to KSh 430,000. Unable to settle the bill or afford a flight back to Kenya, Simon was discharged but left without support.
Since leaving the hospital, Simon has been living on the streets around the Jebel Ali area of Dubai. Those close to him report that his health is worsening due to continued exposure to harsh conditions and lack of care.
Appeal for Assistance
Friends and members of the Kenyan community in Dubai, including Team Dubai Kenya, have called for urgent intervention to help Simon return home. They emphasize the need for medical follow-up and family reunification to prevent his situation from deteriorating further.
Kenyans residing in Dubai or those willing to contribute toward Simon's repatriation are encouraged to contact Team Dubai Kenya to offer support.
Community Efforts Highlighted
Simon’s plight echoes previous cases where Kenyan migrants in distress abroad have received support through collective community action. Notably, Brian Kipkoech, another Kenyan who was homeless in Dubai, was successfully assisted to return home after widespread public support.
