Kenya's middle-distance runners showcased strong performances at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with Wyclife Kinyamal, Kelvin Kimtai Loti, and Nicholas Kiplangat Kebenei all advancing to the men's 800 metres semifinals on Tuesday.

Defending champion Wyclife Kinyamal led the charge, winning Heat One in a time of 1:46.79. Reigning African champion Kelvin Loti secured victory in Heat Two, clocking 1:47.22, while Kebenei qualified safely from Heat Four. The trio will compete again on Wednesday aiming for spots in the final.

Kinyamal, who claimed gold in the 800m at the 2018 Gold Coast and 2022 Birmingham Games, is pursuing a historic third consecutive Commonwealth title. He credited his sustained success to discipline and hard work, acknowledging the challenges of defending a title multiple times.

"It will be amazing because defending a title three times is not easy, but I always work hard to improve," Kinyamal said. He also noted the unpredictable Glasgow weather and emphasized the need for athletes to adapt.
